How it Works

The pricing of your gold is contingent upon two factors:

Karat Weight Division
&
Pureness

Karat Weight Division Precious Metals are measured in ounces by European Troy Standard.

1 ounce (oz.) = 31.1003 grams

Purity

Gold’s purity is measured in
Karats which are used to in-
dicate the percentage of gold.
Pure 100% gold is 24 karat (24k)
and is more expensive but not as
durable as 18 karat (18k), which
is 75% gold. Or even 14 karat (14k)
measured at 58.3% of gold. The
higher number of karats, the greater
value in price.

Therefore, the lower the karat weight in gold means there is a greater amount of alloy.  By law, anything less than 10 karats (10k) cannot be sold as gold in the United States of America.  The law also states that the karat mark and manufacturer’s trademark must appear on the jewelry.  Jewelry or items less than solid 10 karat (10k) are considered costume jewelry, and would not be eligible for trade.
